I first found James Jones in 1982. I had been graduated from an Associate Degree nursing school, Cuesta College, in San Luis Obispo, California.

By 1982 or so, I pulled a cardboard box out from under the guest room bed, and started to look through it. There I found a family tree that I believe was written out by my grandmother, Lenoir Inez Leonard Triplett and her mother-in-law, Ida Greene Triplett.

In that tree you can trace our lines back to Revolutionary Soldier, James Jones. Along the way, you will see Pulaski Greene mentioned, who was Ida's father.

So, I started to work my way back in our tree. I already had seen Ida's writing about her parents, Ann Eliza Bills and Pulaski Green, who traveled to California. At that point, the couple set up a ranch on land Pulaski had purchased with his money he earned working in the gold mining camps and selling goods to the miners. Pulaski was too ill with Tuberculosis to go into the mines.

Slowly but surely, the couple built a life for themselves. They welcomed 3 children into their home/ranch in Dry Creek California.

First was Frank Greene who was born 1854. Next came my great grandmother, Ida Green born in 1856. Last was Shirley Green born in 1858. Shirley Green was a boy. My grandfather who was Shirley Green Triplett, would tell you that the girls stole the  name from the boys.

Shirley Green lived for one year, dying in February 1859. His father Pulaski, died in July 1859. I have posted Pulaski's probate papers as well as newspaper clipping of his passing.

Just a note - Both Pulaski's and Shirley's headstone is the same one in Dry Creek just off the 99 freeway. In fact you use to be able to see their headstone. I should have both pictures for the inscriptions in this blog and they are also on FindAGrave. I did not post these memorials but a far off cousin did. Unfortunately he has since died. What was interesting about him is he worked for quite a long time at Disneyland and actually participated in the parades down mainstreet.

I also have posted the one line obituary of Shirley Greene as well.

But let's return to our main subject at the moment to James Jones the Revolutionary War patriot. After I found James Jones in the family tree booklet, I wrote to the Library of Congress requesting his military records.

About a month or so later, I received a big fat package from the Archives.

Much to my surprise there was 120 pages and I have posted all of them. There are a few that are empty and some with the same phrase written over and over.

I will comment more on the pages as you come to them.
