What I know about our Greene Family.
I received these from a researcher in Pike County Illinois in the mid 1980's. The majority of photo copied records from Pike County were received from her, paid. The Greene family lived in Pike county for 70- 80 years. They originally came from Berlin [now Stephentown], Rensselaer County, New York. Their home county in New York is at the eastern end of the Erie Canal and I often think that they might have traveled through the canal and then onto one of the Great Lakes. From there they would have traveled to Illinois. Eventually they settled in the area of Barry, Pike County. Supposedly the Greenes established an Inn for travelers and early settlers in the 1830s.

I tried to translate this word "Paronychia". I did find a translation in Lexicon at this location:
PARONYCHIA | Definition of PARONYCHIA by Oxford Dictionary on Lexico.com also meaning of PARONYCHIA

This is a recipe for mixing a medication for Angina. This translates easily into a more common reference as "chest pain" that is caused by the gradual closing of the coronary (heart) arteries. The muscles that make up the heart itself, is not getting enough oxygen for the muscle to beat as often as needed during an activity.
I am thinking that this page refers possible to an elevated temperature. I have tried to translate it through Google Translate as well as Lexicon to no avail.

I do not know what this "recipe" refers to. I thought that it might be for a bloody nose, but I don't think so.
I have gone to Google Translate and Lexicon.
The bleed through from the next page doesn't help deciphering the page.

I believe that the handwriting in this book is primarily German.
This is a recipe for making medication that would treat Ophthalmia. We know this condition as "conjunctivitis" or "pink eye". This translation came from Lexicon.
The opposing page 2 is blank and demonstrates "bleed through" phenomena.

I believe that this is Michael Rank's prescription book. There are recipes listed within the first 21 pages. After that the pages are blank.
This is the front cover of the book.
I found this link on the Minnesota Historical Society. The link is for the Gale Family Library. The headline to find this is "State Pri...
