Teuber Family - Albert C. Teuber - Hearing into Death Claim Action

Hearing Opens In Teuber Death Claim Action

Circumstances surrounding the death of Albert Teuber early Nov. 8, 1942, were described by his widow, volunteer firemen and Dr. W.H. Sexton Thursday morning at a hearing before the industrial insurance commission.

Mrs. Teuber is bringing suit against the city for compensation.

Teuber, 41, succumbed to acute coronary disease in his home at 1241 Iowa Avenue Southeast, Dr. Saxton testified, several hours after being dismissed from a hospital where he had been examined for possible injuries suffered while fighting a garage fire.

The doctor said he had found Teuber's lungs, irritated by smoke and heat when he was admitted at about 3 p.m., and that pulse and blood pressure seemed normal. He was released at about 9 p.m. when the doctor re-examined him and found the lunch condition cleared.

Had Mentioned Pains

Symptoms of the heart ailment brought on by exertion, may have been obscured by the lung irritation, Dr. Saxton explained. The heart disease may have been sudden or accumulated.

Mrs. Teuber said her husband was brought home by members of the family, and had told them, "I feel pretty good but weak." He went to bed and fell asleep shortly after. She said she summoned Dr. Saxton between 1:10 and 1:30 a.m. when Teuber appeared to be unconscious. Dr. Saxton pronounced him dead.

At the fire, quarter of a mile south of the city limits the afternoon of Nov. 7. Teuber complained of pains in his chest and arm, H.B. Peterson, first assistant chief who was in charge, said.

Active At Fire

Peterson, Carroll Fullerton and Roy Daum, who also responded to the fire, reported Teuber was active at the scene, helping remove property from the burning structure and taking his turn at the hose line.

While inside the garage, witnesses said, Teuber was tossing paint cans to fellow firemen, while flames and smoke puffed down at him from the ceiling. Later, the firemen said, he held a hose used to prevent the fire from spreading to the house, standing in a narrow opening between the house and the garage where heat was "so terrific" the men had to spell off in brief turns at the nozzle.

Peterson said he ordered Teuber to the hospital when he complained of the pain in his chest.

     The hearing continued Tuesday afternoon.

Teuber Family - Adolph Teuber - page 2

I found this article in the summer of 2012 during our Family History Tour. This is from the Huron Public Library. While I was at the Library finding my Grandma's family history, Brian was out roaming the countryside geochaching. This article reads:

"A warrant was issued for the arrest of John Reese for assault on Adolph Teuber. The complaining witness shows a discolored option in evidence that an assault was committed. The row took place is the Glad Hand saloon, and Teuber was knocked down and bruised in the mix-up."

This was published on page 5 of the Huron Dakota Huronite, January 15, 1903.

The death of Mr. Teuber resulted from tuberculosis and other complications, from which he has been seriously ill for the last month or more. Mr. Teuber was among the oldest residents of Huron. having lived here for the last twenty years or more as a farmer, and engaged in various occupations. He was born on September 25, 1856, at Ludwigsdorf, Germany.
A large number of relatives, many of whom reside in Huron, survive the decedent, among them being a wife, a son, Harry, a daughter, Ethel, and a mother [!]. Besides these there are three brothers, Henry of Huron, Albert of Pierre, and Bernard living on a claim. A sister also, Mrs. Robert Timm who lives south of Huron, survives him.

MARTIN EMMERT DEAD.
___________
The Life of Beloit's Oldest Druggist
Ended This Morning
From Saturday's Daily

It is our mournful duty to record in our pages, this evening, the death of Mr. Martin Emmert, one of the pioneer business men of this city, who passed away at his residence on North Murphy street, at four o'clock this morning after an illness of some months caused by Bright's disease. Mr. Emmert, who was 70 years of age on December 13th last, has been a resident of this city for the past twenty-eight years, during the most of which time he has carried on the business of druggist.
The deceased gentleman came to Beloit from Freeport, Illinois, as the representative of the Emmert Proprietory Medicine Co., a concern in which his brother was largely interested, and made his residence here while he traveled the continguous territory in the interests of the remedies which the company mentioned manufactured. About the year 1880 an opportunity presented itself to him to establish himself in business in this city by the purchase of a druggist's stock of goods owned by a man call H.B. Sargoni, who had been conducting a business of that nature for some time previously.
When Mr. Emmert first came into possession of the business it was carried on in the building now owned and occupied by A. Manifold on Mill street, but he shortly afterwards moved onto Main street and for a number of years did business in the building now occupied by Robert Mahaffa as a book store. From there he moved into the C.P. Houghton building on North Mill street and continued the business on those premises until within a few months ago, when the failing state of his health necessitating his retirement, he disposed of his stock and business to Dr. D. S O'Brien and H. W. Lobdell and it is now being carried on by them in partnership.
Early in the spring of this year Mr. Emmert went to Excelsior Springs in the hope that a course of medicinal baths and treatment would restore him to a more improved state of health and assure to him some few years longer of life. But this hope was not destined to be fulfilled, he returned home no better than he went and latterly it has been seen that the sands in the glass of life were slowly running out and that Death with his dreaded sickle was hovering dangerously near. He has been tenderly nursed by his wife and daughters, the latter of whom were called here some weeks ago, and their watchful vigils have been maintained to the end.
Mr. Emmert was born in Penn's Valley, Center county, Pennsylvania, and in early life studied medicine at Philadelphia. Following the inevitable tread of mankind from the beginning of all times to follow a westward course he did not remain long in the land of his father after he had grown to man's estate, but chose rather to become identified with the upbuilding of the west.
Mr. Emmert is survived by a widow and four daughters, all the latter being married. they are: Mrs. J.J. Dilworth, of Newkirk, Oklahoma; Mrs. S. W. Keiser, of Stillwater, Oklahoma: Mrs. A. R. Eastman, of Agra, Oklahoma, and Mrs. S. Thorstenberg, of Lindsborg, Kansas.
The funeral of the decreased gentleman will be held from the family residence at 3 o'clock tomorrow afternoon the Rev. J. G. Hilton, pastor of the Presbyterian church this city, conducting the services. Internment of the remains will be made in Elmwood cemetery.

POPULAR MADERA COUPLE WEDDED

_____________________________

One of Madera's most popular young ladies, Miss Lenoir Inez Leonard, more familiarly known among her friends as "Bobby" was married to Shirley G. Triplett of Madera at Santa Ana at 2:30 this afternoon, according to word received in Madera this afternoon.

This occurance has been expected for some time by the Madera friends of the two popular young people, but the exact time of the occurance had been kept a secret except to the immediate members of the bride's family.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F.G. Leonard of Madera, coming here with her family from Maple Park, Illinois, some three years ago. She graduated from high school in Illinois in 1922, and followed this with a post graduate business course in the Madera high school. In December, 1923, she began work as secretary of the Madera Business Men's association and assistant secretary of the Madera County Chamber of Commerce.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Triplett of Burbank. He has been in Madera for the past five years, coming here from Arizona where he was an employee of the Santa Fe. At the present time he is auto motive electrician with the Standard garage.

Mr. and Mrs. Triplett will spend some time traveling around in the south, expecting to return to Madera about September 1 to make their home at 112 South N street.

Triplett Family - Shirley Triplett - page 5 - UCR Newspaper - Surprise Party

I found these newspaper articles on the University of California Riverside Center for Bibliographical Studies and Research. I found them in 2020 [can't be more specific].

This newspaper clipping was in the 10 September 1925 of Madera Tribune, Volume XXXVI, Number 110, 10 September 1925.

This article reads as:

TRIPLETTS GIVEN SURPRISE PARTY

Mr. and Mrs. Shirley Triplett were the recipients of a delightful charivari last night, at the home of the bride's parents. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Leonard, Madera avenue and Olive street, when a number of their Ripperdan friends came in to extend their heat wishes. The members of the party gathered at the Leonard home, where the newly weds were invited to spend the evening. The evening was spent in the playing of games and the enjoyment of a social [t]ime and refreshments. Mr. and Mrs. Triplett received some very nice presents as a remembrance from their friends.

I found this letter in my Walkinshaw/Keiser/[and now] Rank family binder.

It reads:

NB [?] I can find no further notice of John Michael Rank who appears to have been the progenitor of the Rank family-

I think it is very probable that he emigrated to this country from the Palatinate as the name of a large number of persons residing in Earl Township are mentioned in the church records, all of whom came from the above mentioned section. It would almost appear that a colony of people from the Palatinate settled in that portion of Lancaster County between 1756 - 1760.
