Letters Testamentary


State of Illinois}         The people of the State of Illinois
     Pike County}SS    To all to whom these present Shall Come Greeting
Know ye that whereas, William Mayes late of the County of Pike and State of Illinois, died on or about the Twentyeth day of May AD 1852 as it is Said after having duly made and published his last will and testament, a copy whereof is hereunto annexed, leaving at the time of his death property in this State, which may be lost destroyed or diminished in value if Speedy Case be not taken of the same, and in as Much as John F. Mayes executor of the last will & testament of said Testator has resigned his trust as Such Executor, and to the End that Said property My be preserved for those who Shall appear to have a legal right or interest therein and that the Said will may be executed acording to the request of the said testator we do hereby authorize Joshua Woosley, as Such Executor [Deboned] now  to Collect and secure all and Singular the goods and Chattels rights and Credits of the Said William Mayes at the time of his deceased in whose soever hands or possession they may be found in this State, and well and truly to perform and fulfil all such duties as may be enjoined upon him by the Said Will so for as there Shall be any property and the Law Charge him and in general to do and perform all other acts which now are on hereafter may be required of him by Law

                        being hereunto affixed at Pittsfield this 11th day of
                        February in the Year of our Lord one thousand Eight

I found this continuation of William Mayes estate on 20 July 2022. The estate paperwork takes up the entire left hand page and the top of the right hand page. This document reads as:

Execuutors Bond

Know all  men by these present that we Joshua Woosley and Samuel L. Crane of the County of Pike and State of Illinois, are held and firmly bound unto the people of the State of Illinois in the final Sum of One Hundred Dollars Current Money ofthe United States for which pay ment will and truly to be made and performed me & Each of us bind our lives our heirs Executors Administration and assey in jointly Severally and Firmly by these present
    Witness our hands and Seals this 11th day of February AD 1853
    
    The Condition of the above obligation is such that if the above bounden Joshua Woosley, Executor of the last will and testament of William Mayes deceased to make or caused to be made a true and perfect inventory of all and Singular the goods Chattels, rights and Credits land tennments and heredebtorments and [?] and profits issuring out of the Same of Said deceased, which have or shall Cover to the hands possession or Knowledge of the Said Joshua Woosley, or unto the hands or possession of any person or persons for him and the same. So made do exhibit in the County Court of Said County of Pike as required by law and also make a fair and Just account of all his sactiongs and doings as such Executor to Said Court when thereunto Lawfully required and the will and truly fulfil the duties Enjoined on him in and by the said Will and Shall moreover pay and deliver to the persons entitled thereto all the legacies and bequests Contained in Said Will so for as the Estate of Said Testator Will thereunto Extend according to the Value thereof And as the Law Shall Charge him and Shall in general to all otheracts which may from time to time be required of him by law then this obligation to be void otherwise to be and services in full force and Effect

                                 To all to whom these presents Shall Come Greeting Know ye that wereas, William Mayes late of the County of Pike and State of Illinois died on or about the Twentyeith day of May AD 1852 as it is Said after having duly made and published his last will and Testament, a copy where of is hereunto amended leaving at the time of his death property in this State, which may be lost destroyed or diminished in Value if Speedy Case be not taken of the same, and in as much as John F. Mayes, Executor of the last will & testament of said Testator has resigned his trust as Such executor, and to the End that Said property has resigned his trust as Such Executor, and to the End that Said property My be preserved for those who shall appear to have a legal right or intrust [therein] and that the Said will may be executed acording to the request of the said testator, we do ohereby authorize Joshua Woosley, as Such Executor  [?]now to Collect and Secure all and Singular the goods and Chattels rights and Credits of the Said William Mayes at the time of this deceased in whose [?] ever hands or possession they may be found in this State, and well and truthly to perform and fulfil all such action as may be enjoined upon him by the said Will so for as there Shall be any [purpoly] and the Las Charge him and in general to do and perform all other acts which now and or hereafter may be required of him by Law.

This is the second page of the probate record for William Mayes. This probate is continued from page 350 onto this page 351. This first entry reads as:

my wife Darnash that after taking the above sums of One dollar for all my children above named then all my debts paid that my two youngest sons have the balance of my Estate my hand and seal this day and year first written

What follows on page 351 is as follows:

Know all men by these presents That we F. Mayes and Joshua Woosley of the County of Pike and State of Illinois are held and firmly bound with the People of the State of Illinois in the final sum of Two Hundred Dollars current money of the United States which payment well and freely to be made and performed [weand] each of us find ourselves our heirs executors administrators and assign jointly and severally and firmly by these presents Witness our hands and seals this 9th day of June A.D. 1852 The condition of the above obligation is such that if the said John F. Mayes Executor of all and singular the goods and chattels rights and credits of William Mayes deceased do make or cause to be made a true and perfect inventory of all and singular the goods and Chattels rights and credits of the said deceased which shall come to the hand s [possession] or knowledge of him the said John F. Mayes as such executor or to the hands of any person or persons for him and the same so made do exhibit or cause to be exhibited in the County Court for the said County of Pike agreeably to law and such goods and chattels rights and [?] credits do well and trully administer according to law and all the rest of said goods and Chattels rights and credits which shall be found remaining upon the account of the said Executor John F. Mayes the same being first examined and allowed by the County Court of Pike County shall deliver and pay unto such person or persons respectively as may be legally entitled thereto and further do make a just and true account of all his actings and doings therein when thereunto required by the said Court and if it shall thereafter appear that any other last will and testament was made by the deceased and the same be proved in court and letters testamentory or of administration be obtained thereon and the said John F. Mayes do in such case on being required therto render and deliver up the letters Testamenary granted to him as aforesaid and shall in general do and perform all other acts which may at any time be required of him by Lax then this obligation to be void otherwise to remain in full force and affect
