Triplett Family - Shirley Green Triplett Memories - page 3

Grandpa often talked about growing up in Minnesota and how it would snow.

He would say that they didn't have skis as we know them. All the kids would do is tie barrel staves to their feet and glide down the hills. He also said they didn't us ski poles. I guess they were better at skiing than I was

My grandfather also talked about the time that a friend of the family, who was a Doctor at the Stillwater State Prison, brought one of the Younger Gang brothers to Little Falls. Grandpa was probably at least 10 years old. Jim and Cole were the only ones still alive at that time. Younger had just been released from the prison.

The James -Younger Gang had attempted to rob the Northfield Bank in Northfield Minnesota. In the process they murdered a bank employee. The Youngers were captured south of La Salle Minnesota. Cole and Jim were sentenced to life and sent to Stillwater. They received pardons from the Governor of Minnesota.

At one point during the Doctor and Younger's visit to Little Falls, they noticed a fort that Grandpa and his friends were building of wood and blankets. The fort was on a vacant lot across from Grandpa's house. Younger was passing by, stopped, and watched them. He commented that their fort reminded him of the times that he and his brothers were out west roughing it. Grandpa couldn't remember what else Younger said after that.
