I do not know how long they knew each other prior to their engagement and marriage, but my mother told me that her mother went home and told HER mother that Grandpa needed someone to take care of him. I am sure the family had a discussion about Grandpa being married before and was left a widower with a disabled daughter.
In the end, my Grandparents got married in Orange, Orange County California, by a judge at the courthouse.
They honeymooned in Mexico. Their hotel had a bar with a painting of a naked lady stretched out on the wall behind the long wooden bar in front of it. She was very embarrassed.
