Triplett Family - Shirley Greene Triplett Birth Record and Pictures - page 1

Grandpa

My grandfather was Shirley Greene Triplett, who was born on the 16th of December, 1889. He was born in his home in the small town of Little Falls, in Morrison County, Minnesota. Shirley at that time was an acceptable name for men, as was Audre and Carroll. It is possible he was named for his mother's brother Shirley, who had died in infancy.
The name "Greene" was his mother's maiden name. He used to tell me that he remembered the day he was born. He said that it was snowing, and he wasn't allowed out to play in the snow. His parents names were Lewis Triplett and Ida Greene Triplett. He had one brother named Harry who was born in 1891.
This is a picture of my Grandpa - on the left -  and his brother Harry, on the right. You can tell they are both boys the way their hair is parted on the left side of the their heads. Girl's hair were parted in the middle.

One thing that I remember is that the boys always ate ahead of their parents. The parents ate meals by themselves. It was also a household where "children are to be seen and not heard"!

This is a picture of my Grandfather's Aunt Vesta Triplett Murchy. Again, you can tell Grandpa is a boy by the part of his hair. Little boys wore dresses until they were potty trained. It was easier to change the diapers with a dress instead of pants.
