On the 24th day of February
1838 personally appeared before
me Daniel Hull of Berlin in the County & State aforesaid aged seventy years who being first duly sworn according to Law on his oath say - that he has resided in the then Little Hosick now town of Berlin, from the year 1776 to the present time & within two miles
of the former residence of Captain
James Dennison & within three miles of the late James Jones. & knows that Captain Dennison was a
whig Committee man & office
from 1776 to his death in 1778 & was most active in both the characters & was among the most respectable & zealous whigs
of that day & was frequently out in the militia service of the United States as an officer during those years, and Captain James Jones was an equally zealous & active whig in those days. and although the deponent can not state any particular tour of service, or terms
of service rendered by the said James Jones he knows it was talked
over & understood in the neighbor[hood] in those day & after the close of the war. was never questioned or
