Greene Family - Shirley Greene - Evening Bulletin Paper Obituary - page 9

I found this notice regarding the death of Shirley Green who was the son of Pulaski and Eliza Green. I am thinking that he possibly died of pneumonia.

And YES! That is his real name - Shirley. According to my grandfather, another Shirley Green (Triplett) the girls stole the name from the boys.

I believe that my grandfather - Shirley Green Triplett, was named for his mother's - Ida Green Triplett - in honor of the brother that she had lost in California.

When Andrew was 2 years old, Andrew, myself, Lorna Winch, and maybe Brian, traveled up HiWay 99 to visit Pulaski and Shirley Greene's gravesite.

The cemetery was a mess! Apparently there had been vandals hacking at some of the monuments. We found Pulaski's marker which had been pushed over, but couldn't find baby Shirley's.

After we had taken a rubbing (which you aren't supposed to do anymore), and were traveling back to my parents house in Fresno, Mom and I looked at each other and said "Shirley's inscription was on the other side of Pulaski's!"

DEATH 2 Feb 1859 (aged 11 months)

Many years later after we had moved to Casper Wyoming, I had time to look into FindaGrave. And lo and behold there were pictures of the monument, standing upright with pictures of both sides. I believe that there was an organization in Lodi that took over management of the cemetery. They had a fence built around the cemetery with a gate. They had also repaired the stones as much as possible.

At about the same time I figured out what the inscription on Pulaski's side of the monument, but have since lost it. As soon as I find it I will post it.
